Official Worcester County Inmate Lookup
The Worcester County Sheriff's Office operates the official inmate look-up for people in Worcester County Jail & House of Correction custody. The system is meant for local jail and house-of-correction custody. That includes pretrial detainees, people held on bail or court orders, and inmates serving county sentences of 2 1/2 years or less. It is not the right search for a person already moved into Massachusetts Department of Correction custody, federal custody, or ICE detention.
The lookup page allows a search by first name, last name, both names, or inmate number. The visible result grid identifies the inmate number, name, date of birth, block, cell, and a Details control. The public start page does not show charges, bond, court dates, arresting agency, or a mugshot before a result is opened, so those items should not be assumed from the first screen. If the roster does not return a match, try spelling variants, recent-arrest records, a phone call to the jail, or a public-records request.
The official WCSO inmate lookup page shows the search form and result columns used for Worcester County inmate records.
The screenshot is useful because it confirms the fields a reader can rely on before a live inmate record is opened.
Use the Worcester County Jail Roster
A good Worcester County inmate records search starts with the least ambiguous identifier available. A full name is enough for many searches, but the inmate number or MSA number is better when mail, court papers, or a prior phone call lists it. Same-name results are possible in a large county. Date of birth, block, and cell help confirm that the row belongs to the right person.
- Open the WCSO inmate look-up and select the name or inmate-number search path.
- Enter the last name first. Add the first name if the result list is broad or the name is common.
- Use the inmate number or MSA number when it is available from mail instructions, court paperwork, or jail staff.
- Review the result row for inmate number, full name, date of birth, block, cell, and the Details control.
- If no record appears, check spelling variants, hyphenated names, recent arrests, or the non-county locators for state, federal, or immigration custody.
There is no research-supported refresh time for the Worcester County jail roster. A very recent arrest may not appear right away. A person may also be at a police holding cell, in court transport, released on bail, or held by another agency. For a time-sensitive status question, call Worcester County Jail & House of Correction at 508-854-1800 before relying on an empty search result.
Worcester County Roster Fields
The county search form is narrow, which is helpful when the goal is custody confirmation rather than a broad criminal-history search. It does not act like a court docket search, and it does not replace MassCourts. The table below reflects the labels and fields captured from the WCSO public search page.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text | Unspecified | Use with last name or by itself if the portal accepts the entry. |
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | The page says users may search by first name, last name, or both. |
| Inmate Number | Text | Unspecified | Useful when an inmate number or MSA number is known from jail mail or staff. |
| Search | Button | n/a | Runs the lookup from the visible start-search interface. |
| Details | Result control | n/a | Appears in the result grid and may open expanded public details. |
Worcester County Inmate Record Fields
The public result grid gives enough information to confirm a current jail match, but it is not a full booking packet. Worcester County inmate records on the start page do not expose Social Security numbers, home addresses, medical records, juvenile details, or full court files. The jail record also differs from a court record. The jail record is a custody record. A court docket is where arraignment events, charge status, dates, and dispositions are tracked.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Inmate Number | A WCSO identifier. The mail rules also refer to an inmate MSA number. |
| Inmate Name | The name attached to the current custody record. |
| Date of Birth | A confirmation field for separating people with similar names. |
| Block | The housing block shown by the Worcester County jail result grid. |
| Cell | The public cell indicator shown in the result row. |
| Details | A link or control for expanded public information, if available for that result. |
Common booking terms have plain meanings. Booking is the jail intake event after arrest. Intake is the process of confirming identity, collecting property, conducting screening, and assigning housing. A detainer or hold is a request or order from another authority that may delay release. Remand means a court has ordered the person held in custody.
Worcester County Inmate Access Channels
The official roster is the first channel, but it is not the only one. Worcester County also has a recent-arrests channel, a jail phone line, an in-person facility, and a public-records request process. The sheriff's office public-records page appoints a Records Access Officer and cites Massachusetts public-records rules. No official WCSO app or app-only inmate search was located in the research.

Massachusetts Public Records Law, G.L. c. 66, section 10, sets the general response framework for public-records requests. The public-records definition and exemptions appear in G.L. c. 4, section 7(26). Some law-enforcement, privacy, juvenile, sealed, medical, safety, or investigatory material may be withheld or redacted.
Custody note: A missing Worcester County jail result does not prove release. It may mean state, federal, ICE, police, court, or records-request follow-up is needed.
Worcester County Custody Facilities
Worcester County inmate records are easiest to read when the facility type is clear. The county jail and house of correction are local custody. North Central Correctional Institution is state prison custody. Federal Medical Center Devens is federal Bureau of Prisons custody. Worcester Police Department holding cells are short-term municipal custody before bail, court, or transfer.

State and Federal Inmate Records
A Worcester County arrest can lead to more than one custody system. A person may begin in local jail custody, then move to a state prison after sentencing. A federal defendant may be held by federal authorities, and an immigration hold may route through ICE. The county roster does not merge these records into one public profile.
| Custody Type | Where to Search | Use It For |
|---|---|---|
| County jail or house of correction | WCSO inmate lookup | Pretrial detainees and county sentences of 2 1/2 years or less. |
| Massachusetts state prison | MA DOC instructions and VINE | Sentenced DOC inmates, including people at North Central Correctional Institution. |
| Federal prison | BOP inmate locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present, including FMC Devens custody. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | ICE custody by A-number and country or biographical information. |
The Mass.gov inmate locator instructions explain that Massachusetts DOC uses VINELink and a phone search line.
That state path matters when a Worcester County case has moved from local jail custody into a sentenced prison placement.
Worcester County Booking Records
The local custody path usually starts with arrest by police, sheriff personnel, state police, or another law-enforcement agency. A person may spend time in short-term police holding while paperwork, bail review, transport, or court scheduling is handled. When the person cannot be released, posts no bail, is ordered held, or is serving a county sentence, transfer to Worcester County Jail & House of Correction can create or update the inmate record used by the roster.
Intake commonly includes identity confirmation, property collection, classification, medical or mental-health screening, mail and phone setup, and housing assignment. The State Auditor materials reviewed WCSO healthcare and inmate deaths, including initial mental-health assessment standards tied to 103 CMR 932.13. The public roster does not show all of those intake details. It gives public custody identifiers, while medical screening and many classification facts remain outside the public result grid.
For charges and court dates after an arrest, use the Massachusetts Trial Court case system rather than relying only on a jail result. The body of a court case can differ from the booking charge shown at intake. A custody record answers where the person is held. The docket answers what has been filed in court.
Worcester County Jail Visits
Visitation is tied to the inmate's approved list. Incoming inmates may list up to seven people, and a visitor who is not on the file will not be admitted. WCSO allows up to three visits per week, with only two visitors per inmate at one time in the visiting room. Visitors must complete the request form, show current photo ID, disclose personal effects or medication, and pass metal detection.
| Visit Type | Schedule or Access | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| In person | Official schedule linked from WCSO visitation materials; exact text schedule was not captured. | Approved list, photo ID, request form, metal detector, dress code, and visitor limits. |
| Video | Scheduled through Securus for approved visitors. | Recorded and monitored. Only the approved visitor should be on camera. |
| Attorney | Handled under separate attorney rules. | WCSO notes dress-code exceptions for attorneys; confirm details with the facility. |
Restrictions are specific. WCSO bars several categories of visitors, including people with open criminal cases, people on parole or probation, certain co-defendants, former inmates during a 10-year post-release period, and people who have visited at least three other inmates during the prior five years. Dress rules also bar tank-top style tops, short skirts or dresses, sheer clothing, some baggy clothing, uniforms, hooded outerwear, most jewelry, and gang-affiliated or obscene material.
Mail, MSA Numbers, and Funds
Worcester County inmate records matter for mail because WCSO requires the individual's name and inmate MSA number in the address. Mail should be sent to Worcester County Jail & House of Corrections, 5 Paul X. Tivnan Dr., West Boylston, MA 01583. Non-privileged correspondence is photocopied for security, the copy goes to the inmate, and the original is held for 30 days before destruction. The research also confirms strict envelope and paper rules, including pure white envelopes and blue or black ink or non-colored pencil.
| Fund Method | Official Details |
|---|---|
| Lobby kiosk | MODS lobby kiosk accepts cash, debit, and credit from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. |
| USPS money orders payable to the inmate may be mailed. Cash is not accepted. | |
| Phone | Credit or debit deposits can be made at 866-345-1884. |
| Online | Credit or debit deposits can be made through Access Corrections. |
Phone calls require a Securus account, and the caller must be on the inmate's phone list. Before sending money, scheduling a visit, or mailing documents, confirm that the person is still in WCSO custody. Transfer, release, court movement, DOC intake, or a federal hold can change the right contact path.
